Staff Profile

Dr Lynne Callaghan

Senior Research Fellow

Kath Maguire

I have worked in the Community and Primary Care Group at the University of Plymouth for the past six years and  joined PenARC in January 2020. I am interested in the development and evaluation of complex interventions for traditionally marginalised groups, particularly those in the Criminal Justice System.

I initially worked on the Engager 2 pilot trial for men with common mental health problems toward the end of their prison sentences, through the gate and into the community, during the pilot trial, both as a researcher and intervention practitioner.

Recently completed projects include a pilot randomised controlled trial of a health trainer intervention for men and women receiving community supervision. I am currently developing a set of projects with Devon and Cornwall Police, including evaluations of diversionary services for individuals with mental health needs who come into contact with the police, and an evaluation of current service provision for people who inject drugs who enter police custody. Other current projects include a qualitative study of the experience of patients with alcoholic hepatitis, and a feasibility and pilot evaluation of a transition hub for looked after children and those on the edge of care.
