I am a mixed methods researcher specialising in the development and evaluation of complex behavioural interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of children and their families; ensuring that stakeholders are actively involved in both trial and intervention design from the outset. I am particularly interested in the science of complex adaptive systems and how best to develop programmes that consider the complexity of social systems as well as how best to capture the way in which interventions change relationships, displace existing activities and redistribute and transform resources.
I am involved in number of health service research projects to promote healthy lifestyles, wellbeing and resilience with children, parents and adults using a variety of research methods, from systematic reviews, randomised controlled trials and qualitative research designs.
I have spent a number of years leading the development and evaluation of an NIHR PHR funded school-based obesity prevention programme (HeLP) from its inception through to the definitive trial of effectiveness (completed in October 2016), involving 1,300 children and their families across Devon.
