There are a variety of routes through which research questions become projects, but our adoption processes have the same three key aims:   

  • Conduct patient-focused research reflecting the needs of the public and the NHS
  • Support evidence-based service change for the benefit of patients and the public
  • Build capacity within the local health economy to generate and effectively use the results of research

Adapting the Chance UK mentoring programme

Theme: CLAHRC - Evidence for Policy and Practice

The Chance UK mentoring programme is for children in London aged 5-11 years who are reported to be displaying challenging behaviour and emotional problems at school and at home. This project will aim to look at ways to redesign and adapt the current mentoring programme, as it has been found to be achieving the desired outcome. Read more

PenCHORD - Modelling high level health and social care capacity needs in Cornwall

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Live

This project aims to model the high-level flows from arrival at the Emergency Department to discharge, transfer or step down in Cornwall. The aim is to identify how increased capacity in various aspects of the health and social care system could help to improve flow throughout the system, and reduce bed blocking. Read more

The Healthy Parent Carers project is a feasibility study testing whether a programme designed by researchers and parent carers can improve the health and wellbeing of parents of children with disabilities. Read more

Researchers in residence

Theme: ARC - Methods for Research & Improvement
Status: Live

This case study seeks to understand how primary care, acute, community and voluntary services within an Integrated Care Organisation (Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust) are working together in community hubs, and the impact of care model innovations. The RiRs are developing an innovative and evolving role which takes a match-funded, co-produced approach to evaluation and research (see pitch document for download). Read more

Development of an Integrated Psychological Medicine Service

Theme: CLAHRC - Mental Health & Dementia
Status: Live

Common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression are common among people passing through the general hospital and are associated with increase emotional distress, worse quality of life, worse medical outcomes and greater healthcare costs. The aim of this project is to greatly improve the level of psychological care provided alongside traditional medical and surgical care for patients attending the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. PenCHORD - Maximising access to thrombectomy services for stroke in England

Theme: PenCHORD

PenCHORD have performed geographic modelling to help inform roll-out of endovascular thrombectomy, a ground-breaking new treatment for severe stroke. Read more
