There are a variety of routes through which research questions become projects, but our adoption processes have the same three key aims:   

  • Conduct patient-focused research reflecting the needs of the public and the NHS
  • Support evidence-based service change for the benefit of patients and the public
  • Build capacity within the local health economy to generate and effectively use the results of research

ADAPT: Accelerated Design and Programme Testing

Theme: CLAHRC - Evidence for Policy and Practice
Status: Live

The research involves adapting aspects of Family Nurse Partnership, an evidence-based programme for young mothers and their babies, and then testing those adaptations with a focus on acceptability, implementation and outcomes. The adaptations include introducing personalisation and adjusting clinical content relating to attachment, smoking cessation, breastfeeding, neglect, mental health and intimate partner violence. Early Learning Communities

Theme: CLAHRC - Evidence for Policy and Practice
Status: Live

The research involves a review of the international evidence on how to promote the school readiness of young children growing up in poverty, and consultation with practitioners, system leaders and families in four Early Learning Communities. Together, these will contribute to the development of a toolkit for Save the Children staff and partners to inform the co-design of effective local early learning systems. Read more

D-PACT: Dementia - Person Aligned Care Team

Theme: CLAHRC - Mental Health & Dementia
Status: Live

The Dementia – PACT (D-PACT) programme is a five-year project, funded by a National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Programme Grant for Applied Research (PGfAR), that aims to develop and evaluate a system for dementia support based in general practice for people with dementia and their carers. PenCHORD - Optimising the location of urgent care sites in Cornwall

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Complete

This project aimed to assess the optimal number and location of sites for patients to access urgent and emergency care in Cornwall. The project fed into “Shaping Our Future” - the NHS Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) for Cornwall and Isles of Scilly. Read more

The Hemi SPAIRE study: The effects of a modified muscle sparing posterior technique (SPAIRE) in hip hemiarthoplasty for displaced intracapsular fractures on post-operative function compared to a standard lateral approach; A randomised controlled trial. Read more

This project aims to provide evidence to better understand the impact of nature-based group activities when treating mental illnesses such as depression, stress and anxiety. Read more

Adapting the Chance UK mentoring programme

Theme: CLAHRC - Evidence for Policy and Practice
Status: Live

The Chance UK mentoring programme is for children in London aged 5-11 years who are reported to be displaying challenging behaviour and emotional problems at school and at home. This project will aim to look at ways to redesign and adapt the current mentoring programme, as it has been found to be achieving the desired outcome. Read more

PenCHORD - Modelling high level health and social care capacity needs in Cornwall

Theme: PenCHORD
Status: Live

This project aims to model the high-level flows from arrival at the Emergency Department to discharge, transfer or step down in Cornwall. The aim is to identify how increased capacity in various aspects of the health and social care system could help to improve flow throughout the system, and reduce bed blocking. Read more

The Healthy Parent Carers project is a feasibility study testing whether a programme designed by researchers and parent carers can improve the health and wellbeing of parents of children with disabilities. Read more

Theme: ARC - Methods for Research & Improvement

This case study seeks to understand how primary care, acute, community and voluntary services within an Integrated Care Organisation (Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust) are working together in community hubs, and the impact of care model innovations. The RiRs are developing an innovative and evolving role which takes a match-funded, co-produced approach to evaluation and research (see pitch document for download). Read more
