Creative Communications Seminar:
Using Wikipedia to disseminate your research

Presenter: Richard Nevell

This seminar is open to all researchers and research-facing professional service staff and is recommended for those interested in using creative methods to engage people with research and disseminate their findings beyond traditional academic journals.

The session will explore why Wikipedia is a suitable platform which researchers can use as part of their research dissemination strategy. Attendees will be shown examples of pages that researchers have created for their research and be provided with a brief overview of how to construct a page for their own research.

A workshop to provide the opportunity and support to develop skills in writing Wikipedia pages to disseminate research follows from 14:30 to 16:30

Richard Nevell is an archaeologist who previously worked for English Heritage and now works for Wikimedia UK, the UK-based charity supporting the Wikimedia projects. He has been writing for Wikipedia as a volunteer since 2006 and training people to contribute since 2012.

Please email Dr Liz Shaw ( to register to attend.
